FOOD HUB MANAGER

 Position Description: Our Harvest Cooperative (OHC) seeks a passionate individual to manage its Food Hub Division.

About Our Harvest Cooperative: Our Harvest Co-op is a union, worker-owned cooperative that farms using organic practices and operates a food hub that provides aggregation, distribution, and technical assistance for local growers while serving as a centralized source of local produce for institutions, individuals, grocery stores, restaurants, and other retail and wholesale buyers. Our Harvest Cooperative is committed to creating family-sustaining jobs in Greater Cincinnati; producing sustainably-grown, local produce; and building a food hub to strengthen the local food system and increase access to healthy food.

 Responsibilities:

Operations: 75%

  • Ensure produce quality standards are met for all produce used in Weekly Harvest Boxes and wholesale orders
  • Inventory produce and other items on a regular basis
  • Communicate harvest needs to producers based on inventory and orders placed
  • Coordinate pick-up and delivery of product from OHC farm properties
  • Perform other online administrative tasks, which could include updating online inventory, tracking payments, invoice generation, etc.
  • Oversee food safety tracking and record-keeping systems (GAP, HAACP, etc.)
  • Manage product in cooler and improve organization/product-rotation systems
  • Ensure proper storage conditions for all items
  • Organize outgoing product and pack for different markets and orders on a weekly basis
  • Help maintain infrastructure, equipment, and vehicles
  • Organize and manage supplies (boxes, packing materials, cleaning supplies, FM supplies, office supplies, etc.)
  • Coordinate potential space improvements (additional temperature zones, etc.)
  • Refine packing and distribution systems for maximum efficiency
  • Coordinate logistics for multiple, simultaneous delivery routes
  • Receive and store product from other local producers
  • Coordinate the purchase and management of other new infrastructure: trucks, refrigeration units, pack-out lines, coolers, pallet jacks, etc.

Sales: 10%

  • Circulate weekly availability list to wholesale buyers and receive orders
  • Perform customer service as needed

Producer Partnerships: 5%

  • Improve systems for onboarding new producer partners
  • Work with Weekly Harvest Box Coordinator to forge new producer partnerships

Manage Staff: 10%

  • Serve as supervisor for Weekly Harvest Box Coordinator, Food Access Coordinator, and other food hub team members
  • Support Weekly Harvest Box Coordinator in achieving participation goals and ensuring smooth operations of program
  • Support Food Access Coordinator in growing and running Harvest Day program

Duration and Compensation: This is a full-time, year-round, paid position. Our Harvest is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds. Qualifications:

  • At least four years related work experience (sales, customer service, food system-related work, etc.)
  • Ability to manage complex systems and juggle many simultaneous details in an organized fashion
  • Proven history of success with extremely detail-oriented work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to easily learn Our Harvest’s software systems
  • Resourcefulness and ability to perform a variety of tasks with a creative approach to problem solving
  • Flexibility to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with others in a team setting
  • Ability and willingness to safely lift 50 lbs and safely drive a refrigerated truck
  • Produce storage and quality experience is a bonus

WEEKLY HARVEST BOX COORDINATOR

Responsibilities: 

Weekly Harvest Box Program: 90%

  • Oversee all aspects of Weekly Harvest Box program
  • Grow program participation significantly during 2017 season
  • Forge and maintain relationships with pick-up locations
  • Conduct outreach throughout the season to ensure consistent membership levels
  • Track weekly membership levels and communicate to team
  • Write weekly e-newsletter
  • Respond to customer questions in a timely and courteous manner
  • Organize member events throughout the season (including volunteer days, member appreciation events, and educational workshops)
  • Track member satisfaction and implement strategies to resolve concerns
  • Assist in daily packing of Weekly Harvest Boxes
  • Work with farm team to establish weekly WHB contents
  • Staff pick-ups and ad hoc sales events as needed
  • Coordinate volunteers as needed
  • Update/design outreach materials (flyers, posters, electronic materials, etc.)
  • Grow producer partnerships to ensure supply and volume of produce for WHBs
  • Manage local product add-ons and work with producers to add new ones as desired

General: 10%

  • Maintain OHC's social media presence
  • Help maintain website content
  • Assist with general marketing and communications efforts
  • Develop relationships with community partners
  • Coordinate ad hoc sales events (one-day markets, corporate events, etc.)
