Improving healthy food access
At Our Harvest, we believe that fresh, healthy food is a fundamental right. To protect this right, we collaborate with various community partners, including Interact for Health, the Cincinnati Health Department, Produce Perks and others to increase the affordability and accessibility of fresh, healthy foods to all Cincinnati communities.
Through our Harvest Day program, we deliver fresh fruits and vegetables at wholesale prices to communities without grocery stores.
We also partner with the Freestore Foodbank and CAIN Food Pantry to donate any extra produce we have to communities in need.
Our Harvest's work would not be possible without the support of our many partners.
food system work
Our Harvest is also engaged at a systemic level.
Highlights of some policy change work we are active in:
- Greater Cincinnati Food Policy Council: The mission of the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council is to promote a healthy, equitable, and sustainable food system for all within Greater Cincinnati’s ten-county region.
- Green Umbrella Local Food Action Team: The Local Food team brings together local farmers, distributors, farmers markets, cooperatives, community gardeners, community supported agriculture organizations, health professionals, restaurants, extension services, educational organizations and processors to develop strategies to increase the demand for local foods, increase production and identify new markets for local foods.
- Creating Healthy Communities Coalition: The CHC Coalition will inspire and energize all Cincinnatian’s health and well-being through creative, fun, and innovative collaboration to create a collective impact. This will be accomplished by addressing healthy eating, active living, tobacco free living, and other relevant health issues to prevent disease.
